Stephen A. Koff, MD earned his MD from Duke University in 1969 and his internship and residency in internal medicine at New York Hospital, Cornell University Medical Center. He later completed his general surgery and urology residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center, followed by a pediatric urology fellowship at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, England.
In 1977, Dr. Koff was appointed Assistant, and later Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Pediatric Urology Service at the University of Michigan Medical Center. In 1982, Dr. Koff was appointed Associate Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Koff was promoted to Professor in 1990. Dr. Koff was appointed Chief, Section of Pediatric Urology at Nationwide Children's Hospital, in 1985 and continues in this role today. November of 2006 Dr. Koff was named Chief Surgical Officer of Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Koff’s clinical research interests include the pre- and post-natal management of fetal hydronephrosis, the relationships between dysfunctional elimination, vesicoureteral reflex and urinary tract infection, and reconstructive urology. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and 50 book chapters, and is a frequent invited lecturer, both nationally and internationally. Dr. Koff has been selected as one of the “Best Doctors in America” in each edition since 1992.
Rama Jayanthi, MD, is a true Buckeye having earned his undergraduate and medical degree from the Ohio State University. He completed a surgical internship at the University Hospitals of Cleveland followed by urological training at the Albany Medical College, in Albany, New York. He subsequently completed his pediatric urology training at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. He joined the medical staff of Nationwide Children's Hospital in July, 1994 and is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Urology at The Ohio State University Medical Center.
His clinical and research interests include all aspects of pediatric urology but have most recently focused on promoting and expanding minimally invasive surgical techniques in children. These include the development of a comprehensive laparoscopic program for the management of ureteropelvic junction obstruction, duplex renal anomolies and vesicoureteral reflux. He has a personal interest in international health and frequently travels overseas to teach pediatric urologists and surgeons in developing countries medical and surgical management of complex urological problems.
Seth A. Alpert, MD completed his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College in 1993 and earned his MD from the George Washington University School of Medicine in 1997. He finished surgical internship and urology residency at the University of Tennessee-Memphis in 2003 and subsequently completed a pediatric urology fellowship at Children’s Memorial Hospital/Northwestern University in Chicago in 2005. Dr. Alpert joined the Section of Pediatric Urology at Nationwide Children's Hospital in 2005 as a full-time faculty member and is actively involved in patient care, research and training of urology residents and a pediatric urology fellow. Dr. Alpert is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Urology at The Ohio State University Medical Center. His clinical interests include vesicoureteral reflux, hydronephrosis, nephrolithiasis, hypospadias, and laparoscopic surgery.
