The Office of Trainee Affairs is pleased to announce the availability of 3 types of awards to support research trainees at Nationwide Children's Hospital:
1. Travel awards of up to $1500 each will be available to trainees for travel to national or international conferences or meetings to present original research. There will be two Application deadlines this year: Spring (Applications Due February 6, 2015) and Fall (applications due July 6, 2015). Applicants should submit meeting information (name, date, location, affiliated scientific society), submitted abstract, a brief statement describing the trainee’s contribution to the work to be presented (a paragraph or half-page maximum). Proof of acceptance of the abstract will be required before funds are released. All travel awardees must commit to present their work as a Poster of the Week or a short talk at a Friday RITA meeting (depending on the format of the funded presentation).
2. Graduate Student Research Awards (offered in the spring will be available to cover graduate student stipend and resident tuition for one year. The purpose of these awards is to target and recruit exceptional students that have a high probability of obtaining extramural research support for their dissertation research. Priority will be given to students completing their first year choosing to perform their dissertation research at NCH. The letter of intent will be due on March 13, 2015, and the application will be due on April 3, 2015.
3. Postdoctoral Idea Research Awards will be available for original work proposed by postdoctoral researchers ($20,000/award). Proposed research cannot overlap with funded grants or ongoing research and should have a high probability of leading to extramural research support. Funds must be used for supplies and travel relevant to proposed research or salary support of the postdoctoral researcher. No more than 50% of the award may be used for salary support. The letter of intent will be due on March 13, 2015, and the application will be due on April 3, 2015.
