Office of Trainee Affairs: 2015 Trainee Research Awards

The Office of Trainee Affairs is pleased to announce the availability of 3 types of awards to support research trainees at Nationwide Children's Hospital:

1. Travel awards of up to $1500 each will be available to trainees for travel to national or international conferences or meetings to present original research. There will be three application deadlines for 2016:

  • Applications are due November 5, 2015 for meetings taking place from January 1, 2016 - April 31, 2016.
  • Applications are due March 15, 2016 for meetings occurring between May 1, 2016 - August 31, 2016.
  • The last deadline will be July 15, 2016 for meetings occurring between September 1, 2016 - December 31, 2016.

Applicants should submit all meeting information (name, date, location, affiliated scientific society), an abstract, and a brief statement describing the trainee’s contribution to the work to be presented and the value of the meeting to be attended to the training experience (a paragraph or half-page maximum). All of this information is included in the submission form.

2. Graduate Student Research Awards (offered in the spring) will be available to cover graduate student stipend and resident tuition for one year. The purpose of these awards is to target and recruit exceptional students that have a high probability of obtaining extramural research support for their dissertation research. Priority will be given to students completing their first year choosing to perform their dissertation research at Nationwide Children's. The letter of intent will be due on April 1, 2016, and the application will be due on May 1, 2016.

3. Postdoctoral Idea Research Awards will be available for original work proposed by postdoctoral researchers ($20,000/award). Proposed research cannot overlap with funded grants or ongoing research and should have a high probability of leading to extramural research support. Funds must be used for supplies and travel relevant to proposed research or salary support of the postdoctoral researcher. No more than 50% of the award may be used for salary support. The letter of intent will be due on April 1, 2016, and the application will be due on May 1, 2016.
