Tarun Bhalla, MD joined Nationwide Children’s Hospital in 2010 as medical staff after being Chief Resident and Chief Fellow at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Children’s Memorial Hospital/Lurie Children's in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Bhalla is a fellowship trained and board certified pediatric anesthesiologist and is also board certified in pain medicine. As of 2015, he is Vice Chairman of the Comprehensive Pain Services (CPS) and has also served as the Director of Acute Pain and Regional Anesthesia since 2011. The Comprehensive Pain Services encompasses 1) Acute Pain Service, 2) Chronic Pain Clinics, 3) Regional Anesthesia Service, 4) Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) and 5) Advanced Illness Management (Palliative Care).
Under Dr. Bhalla's leadership, the Acute Pain and Regional service at Nationwide Children’s Hospital has become one of the top in the nation among pediatric hospitals. It is one of the few that focus on perioperative comprehensive pain management, including regional blocks and peripheral nerve catheters in the pediatric population. He is an associate professor of Anesthesiology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
Dr. Bhalla is also the program director for the Pediatric Regional Anesthesia fellowship and has a passion for both research and teaching.
Dr. Bhalla continues to teach pediatric regional anesthesia at annual society workshops (American Society of Anesthesia and Society of Pediatric Anesthesia) around the country as well as internationally. Some of his research interests include pediatric neuro-trauma as well as pediatric regional, acute pain and complementary pain management techniques.
