Global Impact: Improving Pediatric Surgery and Urology
Through the work of the Stecker International Scholar Program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, physicians such as Sebastian Ekenze, MD, a pediatric surgeon at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in Enugu, Nigeria are able to learn new techniques to advance the care they provide for their patients. Often, changes can be implemented without new equipment and may even reduce costs.
Scene Updates
Jill Fitch, MD has been appointed medical director of the Blood Conservation Program. In her new role, Dr. Fitch will work with the Hospital Liaison Committee of the Jehovah’s Witness faith as well as others who wish to avoid blood transfusion, to coordinate their care with physicians on Nationwide Children’s staff who have indicated their willingness to work with the Blood Conservation Program.

Pediatric Urologists: Using 3D Imaging to Improve Surgical Outcomes
Laparoscopic surgery continues to make great strides with minimally invasive surgical procedures, making them even more minimal and less invasive with the implementation of 3D imaging. Nationwide Children’s Hospital was the first pediatric hospital in the country to use the 3Di Vision Systems by Viking Systems, Inc. in the operating room.
