Lisa Kluchurosky, MEd, ATC (Email Me)
Lisa Kluchurosky, MEd, ATC, is the Program Manager for Children’s Sports Medicine. She spent more than 13 years working as an athletic trainer in the Columbus Public Schools before joining Children’s. She is licensed by the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers Board and certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. She received her master’s degree from Ashland University after receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati.
In addition to being an active member of the Ohio Athletic Trainers’ Association, the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association, and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Lisa is a clinical instructor at both Capital University and Otterbein College. In 2004, she was named Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Ohio Athletic Trainers’ Association.
Lisa has authored numerous publications on the pediatric and adolescent athlete and presented lectures to physicians, athletic trainers, nurses and other allied health professionals. She is an advocate for the education of athletes, parents and coaches on proper recognition and care of injuries.
A former softball, basketball and volleyball player, Lisa now enjoys recreational exercise, golf and biking. She also is an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.
Lisa discovered that she wanted to be an athletic trainer when she was in high school. “The career of athletic training was introduced to me by my high school basketball coach and mentor, Barb Crysler,” Lisa explained. “She explained to me what an athletic trainer was. When I looked into it further, I knew that was what I wanted to do for a living. My favorite part about being an athletic trainer has always been working with kids. I’ve had the privilege to meet and work with many great coaches along the way as well.”
Kerry Waple, MEd, ATC, CSCS (Email me)
Kerry Waple is the Senior Athletic Trainer with Children’s Sports Medicine. She is a certified and licensed athletic trainer and a certified strength and conditioning specialist. She received her bachelor’s degree in physical education/athletic training from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, and her master’s degree in education (athletic training/sports medicine) from the University of Virginia.
Kerry has had unique experience with the United States Olympic Team. In 2003, she was selected by the U.S. Olympic Committee to serve as an athletic trainer for USA Basketball for the World Championships for Women’s Basketball in Croatia and as an athletic trainer for the USA Basketball 2003 National Team Trials at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs. She also spent several months in residence at the USOTC, as a visiting athletic trainer, helping to prepare athletes for the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Greece. In 1996, she was selected to serve as an athletic trainer for the US Team at the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. She also has served as an athletic trainer for the Pan American Games (1995); US Olympic Festival (1994); and the Big East All-Star Women’s Basketball Team (1993). Since 1997, she has been a member of the US Olympic Committees Sports Medicine Society.
Prior to joining Children’s, Kerry was an associate professor and assistant athletic trainer at Capital University. At Capital, she provided clinical services for the Women’s Basketball and Men’s Soccer and Baseball teams. As a full-time faculty member, she provided instruction to undergraduates in the CAAHEP-Accredited Athletic Training Curriculum. From 1997 to 2000, she served as Chair of the Health and Sports Sciences Department at Capital. In 1998, Kerry was awarded the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association College/University Athletic Trainer of the Year.
Kerry also has served as an athletic trainer/clinical instructor at the University of Pittsburgh, concentrating on Women’s Basketball, and Men’s and Women’s Track/Cross Country and Cheerleading teams. She also was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Virginia.
Kerry enjoys hiking, biking and camping and is an avid skier. “I became a certified athletic trainer because I loved the idea of working with injured athletes, helping to restore their function, and returning them to their sport as safely and efficiently as possible,” Kerry explained. “I have also loved all the different experiences I have had with athletes from all different levels of sport, from the Olympic caliber athlete to the college, high school and middle school competitor. They all have their own championships and medals to win.”
Marie Bamer, MS, ATC* (Email me)
Marie Bamer received her bachelor’s degree in 2009, as well as master’s degree in 2010, in Athletic Training at Ohio University. She is certified nationally as an athletic trainer by the Board of Certification, and licensed by the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers’ Board. She is also a CPR/ AED Instructor for the American Red Cross.
While attending Ohio University, Marie’s clinical experiences included women’s filed hockey, soccer, softball and swimming teams as well as men’s wrestling. As a graduate assistant, she worked as the head Athletic Trainer and Clinical Instructor at Wellston High School in Wellston, Ohio. Upon graduation from Ohio University, Marie became a member of our Nationwide Children’s Sports Medicine Team and will also serve as the Athletic Trainer at Canal Winchester High School.
Marie’s passion for athletics, health, and helping others lead her into a career as an Athletic Trainer. “I love helping athletes achieve their goals. Whether it is injury or fitness related, I love challenging individuals to achieve their highest potential. I am excited to be a part of the expanding Sports Medicine Department at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. It is amazing to be a part of a team that takes pride in serving their community and doing everything they can to improve the lives and well-being of others.” In her free time, Marie enjoys exercising and spending time with friends and family.
Kevin Brown, ATC (Email me)
Kevin Brown received his bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine from The College of Wooster in 1996. He is licensed by the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers Board and certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association. Before joining the Children’s Sports Medicine team and becoming an athletic trainer with Groveport Madison High School, Kevin worked in outpatient physical therapy specializing in sport and industrial rehabilitation.
He has also shared assistant athletic training duties for Hilliard Darby High School and Columbus Academy. Kevin enjoys softball, volleyball and most any outdoor activity.

Tim Brown is a Certified Athletic Trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist for Nationwide Children’s Hospital Sports Medicine. He is licensed by the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Athletic Trainers’ Board; certified nationally by the Board of Certification as an athletic trainer and certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Tim received his Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Bowling Green State University. Prior to joining the Nationwide Children’s Sports Medicine team, Tim worked for a nationally recognized health and rehabilitation system in Cleveland, Ohio and was an Assistant Athletic Trainer for Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. He was a past program director responsible for functional progression evaluations and performance enhancement programs geared towards youth to collegiate aged in either individual or group settings. He held previous certifications with National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Performance Enhancement Specialist and Bigger Faster Stronger Certified Level III Conditioning Coach.
Tim enjoys attending the National Strength and Conditioning Association National Conference on an annual basis and has achieved the NSCA IronMan status. Tim has vast experience with high school outreach, industrial rehabilitation, and wellness. “I’ve have been fortunate to work in a wide variety of settings as an Athletic Trainer. These experiences have allowed me to find creative ways challenge my patients.” Tim is married and is an avid Cleveland sports fan. He enjoys recreational sports, biking and fitness.
Stephanie Carzoo, ATC, EMT* (Email me)
Steevie Carzoo is a licensed and certified athletic trainer and emergency medical technician, as well as a CPR and first aid instructor with the American Red Cross. In addition to being a member of the Nationwide Children’s Sports Medicine team, Steevie is currently the assistant athletic trainer at Thomas Worthington High School.
Before joining Nationwide Children’s Sports Medicine, Steevie completed her master’s degree at Michigan State University. She worked as the head athletic trainer at Lansing Community College and with the Michigan State men’s and women’s soccer teams as part of her graduate school obligations. She also taught CPR and first aid to undergraduate students.
Steevie became an emergency medical technician at age 16 after witnessing a car accident and emergency response in her front yard. “Being an EMT led me to sports medicine because I have the ability to combine my love of sports and emergency medical skills.” Upon being asked why she chose to work with young athletes, she explained, “I am passionate about this age group because they are fun and full of energy. I hope to be able to help them not only participate safely in physical activity but also to find success in life.” In her spare time, Steevie enjoys reading, playing ice hockey, outdoor recreation, and spending time with her cat, Blaze.
Travis Gallagher, ATC* (Email me)
Travis received his bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Baldwin-Wallace College. He is nationally certified and licensed by the State of Ohio to practice athletic training. Prior to joining the team at Nationwide Children’s Sports Medicine, Travis was a clinical and outreach athletic trainer for ten years with a nationally recognized health and rehabilitation system in the Cleveland area.
Through the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association, Travis has organized events and presented on the subjects of concussions, disordered eating, asthma vs. vocal cord dysfunction, and public relations for athletic trainers. He has also helped develop injury prevention programs, taught a credited athletic training program for high school students, and is a CPR/AED instructor through the American Heart Association.
“I enjoy a few areas of athletic training including rehabilitating injured athletes back to their sport, educating families on injury prevention, and the promotion of athletic training as a profession. Additionally, I think it is important to include 'play' in all areas of life.” Travis is married with two daughters and expecting a son in September.
Brian Huck, ATC (Email me)
Brian Huck received his bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from Otterbein College and his master's degree in Athletic Training from Indiana State University. Brian is a certified Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification, and licensed in the State of Ohio. Prior to joining the staff at Children's Sports Medicine, Brian was most recently the Athletic Trainer for Lancaster High School, and an Athletic Trainer for PSJA Memorial High School in Alamo, Texas.
At Otterbein College, Brian was fortunate to complete an internship with the Columbus Chill of the East Coast Hockey League, where Brian fell in love with the game of hockey. Brian is also a Certified Instructor for the American Red Cross, in CPR/AED training.
Brian is married with two children and he enjoys cooking, music, gardening, golf, and family in his free time.

Nicole Jewell (Email me)
Nicole Jewell received her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Capital University in May of 2006 and her master’s degree in Education from Old Dominion University in May of 2009. She is licensed by the state of Ohio and certified by the Board of Certification as an athletic trainer. Nicole is also an active member of the NATA, GLATA, and the OATA.
Prior to joining the Sports Medicine team at Nationwide Children's Hospital Nicole served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio. While at Lake Erie College Nicole’s primary responsibilities were to cover men’s and women’s soccer, women’s basketball, and baseball. In addition, Nicole had previously worked as a graduate assistant Athletic Trainer at Norfolk State University. During her time at Norfolk State University Nicole was responsible for coverage of volleyball, football, men’s and women’s track and field, and softball.
In high school Nicole was a very active athlete. She participated in volleyball, basketball, and summer swim team. Nicole is married and has a daughter. In her spare time she likes to read, bake, and spend time outdoors with her family. When asked about her career choice Nicole explains, “I discovered my passion for athletic training when I was in high school. Every day I would make a trip down to my athletic trainer’s office for a new injury of some sort. From the time that I spent with her healing my injuries I knew that I wanted to be an athletic trainer. It is a perfect fit to combine my love for sports, kids, and helping others.”
Eric Leighton, ATC (Email me)
Eric Leighton graduated from Capital University with a Bachelors degree in athletic training in 2000, and is licensed by the state of Ohio, as well as nationally certified. Before becoming an athletic trainer, Eric was certified as an Emergency Medical Technician in the state of Ohio and worked in a specialized post surgical and rehabilitation center for hand and arm injuries.
Prior to joining the Children's Sports Medicine team, Eric served as the Athletic Trainer for Delaware Hayes High School in Delaware, Ohio for 6 years and before that at Big Walnut High School and Dublin Scioto High School.
Eric is also involved with the Institute for International Sport, based at the University of Rhode Island, where he is part of the Sports Medicine team for the U.S. and World Scholar Athlete Games.
Eric's sports career consisted of 6 years of Lacrosse, 4 in high school and 2 years in the U.S. Navy. "I decided to look into athletic training after injuring my knee and going through therapy myself. The athletic trainers were able to help me work through my injury, remain active and ultimately to return to full function." Eric now enjoys many sports in his off time including volleyball, skiing, rock climbing and SCUBA diving.
Tina Lepley, ATC (Email me)
Tina Lepley received her bachelors’ degree in sports medicine and health education from Ohio Northern University. Prior to joining the team at Nationwide Children's Hospital, she was a clinic athletic trainer in Atlanta, GA. Tina also worked as a clinic and outreach athletic trainer in South Carolina and Indiana for physical therapy clinics specializing in sports medicine, orthopedic, and occupational injuries and conditions.
Tina is a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Ohio, and a member of the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association, Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association, and the National Athletic Trainers Association.
“After my exposure to sports medicine as an injured athlete in high school, I knew it was perfect for me because of my love for sports and medicine. Not only is it very rewarding to see an athlete return to the playing field successfully following an injury, but it is also great to see the relief on a parents face.”
In her free time, Tina enjoys reading, cooking, golfing, and attending sporting events. She also volunteers for multiple cancer organizations and AIDS organizations.
Janet McClaskey, ATC (Email me)
Janet McClaskey is the Sports Medicine Coordinator for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She received her bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine from Mount Union College, where she was a member of the Blue Key National Honors Program. She is licensed by the State of Ohio and certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
Prior to joining Nationwide Children’s Sports Medicine, Janet worked for Fairfield Medical Center where she developed a Prenatal and Postpartum Exercise Program and consulted on a variety of other wellness programs including weight loss, sports enhancement and employee fitness. She also worked outreach with Liberty Union and Fairfield Union Schools, where she developed ankle injury and ACL injury prevention programs.
At Nationwide Children’s, Janet worked in conjunction with the Center for Healthy Weight to develop and implement the exercise portion of the evening New U Program. She is a physician extender in the Sports Medicine clinics and has lectured on obesity prevention and education to physicians, athletic trainers, nurses and other allied health professionals.
Janet is married and has four children that keep her busy with their many sporting events. She enjoys working with the youth in her community by coaching basketball and softball and is the appointed treasurer for the Liberty Union Youth Football Association.
“I chose to become an athletic trainer because I am able to merge two of my favorite passions, medicine and athletics,” Janet explained. “I work to keep my athletes healthy and in the game, by providing a working knowledge of injuries and the sports they play.”
Ashley Minnick, ATC* (Email me)
Ashley Minnick received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Wright State University. She is licensed in the state of Ohio and certified by the Board of Certification as an athletic trainer. She is an American Red Cross Instructor for the Professional Rescuer & Lay Responder First Aid, CPR/AED, Oxygen, and Blood Borne Pathogens.
Ashley is also an active member of the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association, Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association, and the National Athletic Trainers Association. Before joining the Sports Medicine team at Nationwide Children's Hospital, Ashley spent the past two years as an athletic trainer at Denison University covering football, women’s basketball, women’s lacrosse, and men’s and women’s tennis. Prior to her time with the Big Red, she was an athletic trainer at Ashland University working with varsity and junior varsity football, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and men’s and women’s indoor/outdoor track and field.
While trying out for her high school soccer team, Ashley literally fell into athletic training. “During our mile run, I stepped into a groundhog hole and sprained my ankle. I spent the next couple weeks being pushing by my athletic trainer during rehabilitation sessions. I bombarded him with questions about everything he did and how these things were going to help all of the injured athletes, including myself, return to playing the sports we love. I have always known that I was going to help other and, thanks to the groundhog, my high school athletic trainer, and many other mentors, I found my vocation. Now, I am the one striving to return my athletes back to play as quickly and safely as possible.”
Eddie Neville MS, ATC (Email me)
Eddie received his Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Marshall University in 1997 and his Master’s degree in Health and Physical Education Sciences from Marshall in 2000. As part of the Clinical Sports Medicine team, Eddie works with our physicians in the office setting on a daily basis. In addition to his clinical responsibilities he Chairs the Outreach and Community Events Committee within in the department.
While at Marshall University, Eddie was a student athletic trainer for the 1995 Southern Conference Men's Basketball Champions under head coach Billy Donovan and the 1996 Division 1AA National Champion Football team. Eddie worked as a graduate assistant while at Marshall University and served as the assistant athletic trainer at Ashland Paul Blazer High School in Ashland, Kentucky.
Prior to joining Children's Sports Medicine, Eddie worked with a national health and rehabilitation system in Columbus as the area golf specialist and sports medicine coordinator, while covering all boys and girls sports at Bishop Ready High School for 8 years. Originally from Ironton, Ohio, a "sports-loving town", it was a natural fit for Eddie to choose athletic training as a career after high school.
In his free time, Eddie enjoys spending time with his family and friends. "I feel very fortunate to be a part of the Children's Sports Medicine team. It is truly an honor to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing staff and the wonderful kids we meet daily at the hospital."
Scott Peppel, ATC* (Email me)
Scott received his bachelors degree in Sports Medicine from Mercyhurst College in 2000 and his masters degree in Athletic Training from the University of Virginia in 2001. While at the University of Virginia Scott served as the Athletic Trainer for the post-graduate football team at Fork Union Military Academy. Scott is licensed in the State of Ohio and certified nationally by the Board of Certification as an athletic trainer.
Prior to joining the Sports Medicine team at Nationwide Children's Hospital Scott served as the Head Athletic Trainer for Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. While at Kenyon College Scott supervised all aspects of athletic training and his primary responsibilities were to the football and baseball team. In addition, Scott had previously worked as an assistant Athletic Trainer at the College of Wooster where he earned his Strength and Conditioning Certification from the NSCA. With the combined background, Scott then took a role as the Director of Sport Performance for a therapy group in Illinois. Upon joining Kenyon College in 2004, Scott continued to provide strength and conditioning programs and guidance to many of the varsity sport programs.
Scott is married and currently resides in Sunbury. Scott enjoys an active lifestyle that includes golf, fitness, and spending time with family and friends. For Scott the best aspect about the Athletic Training profession is the satisfaction of helping those athletes with injuries return to their sport or activity and watching the progression as each individual advances to achieve a higher level of confidence and ability.
Jill Ponzi, MEd, ATC (Email me)
Jill Ponzi received her bachelor’s degree in Education from The Ohio State University and her master’s degree in Education from Ashland University. She is licensed by the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers Board and certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. In addition, she has an Ohio K-12 teaching certification in physical education and health and is a CPR/AED Instructor for the American Heart Association.
Prior to joining Children’s Sports Medicine, Jill was an athletic trainer in Columbus Public Schools and for the past 7 years she taught Health and Physical Education at Westerville North High School where she also worked as the Head Athletic Trainer. In 1998, she was the Ohio Athletic Trainers’ Association (OATA) High School Athletic Trainer of the Year and in 2004, she received an OATA Special Consideration Award.
Jill is the newsletter editor for the Ohio Athletic Trainers’ Association, where she also serves on the Professional Education Committee. She is the Secretary for the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association and serves on the Columbus Medical Association Sports Medicine Committee.
Jill loves watching sports, especially high school athletics. “My high school football coach handed me a brochure the summer before my senior year about a student athletic trainer camp. I attended the camp at Ohio State University and decided that week I wanted to become an athletic trainer after meeting OSU Head Athletic Trainer Linda Daniel — I wanted to be just like her!” Jill explained. “My position at Children’s Sports Medicine is the dream job I have always wanted. I feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity to work for and with such great people who care so much about kids!”
Lori Siegel, MS, ATC (Email me)
Lori Siegel received her bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania in December of 2004 and her master's degree in Athletic Training from West Virginia University in May of 2007. She is licensed by the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers' Board and certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
While at Slippery Rock University, Lori was a member of the Women's Track and Field team and Slippery Rock University Athletic Training Association. During her two-year stay as a graduate assistant at West Virginia University, Lori was the head athletic trainer at Clay-Battelle High School. As a part of her clinical education, Lori gained valuable experience in the rehabilitation of a variety of injuries and patient populations.
Lori is very passionate about sports, athletic training, and is an avid runner. Most of her free time is spent running, skiing, or boating. She loves the outdoors, sunshine, and warm weather. When asked why she enjoys being a certified athletic trainer Lori said, "I love that I have the ability to impact the future of my profession not only through my job but also by educating others."
Jessica Stanley, MS, ATC (Email me)
Jessica Stanley is Certified by the BOC and Licensed in Ohio as an Athletic Trainer. She is also an American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED instructor. Before coming to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Jessica spent the last year working with the Women’s Basketball and Men’s and Women’s Tennis Programs at the University of Tulsa. Prior to her time with the Golden Hurricane, she was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of Dayton working with Women’s Volleyball, Basketball, Track and Field, while earning a Masters of Science in Education.
Jessica completed a double degree in Athletic Training and Biological Sciences in 2005 from Wright State University, where she also competed in Track and Field for the Raiders in the throwing events. While at WSU, she also had the opportunity to intern with the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Football team at the University of Hawaii.
Jessica says “I am very excited to be a part of what Nationwide Children's Hospital is doing in the community for young athletes. It is my goal to provide the best care to the athletes, and education for parents through my diverse background in both athletics and the field of Athletic Training.”
Gail Swisher, ATC (Email me)
Gail Swisher received her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 2001. She is licensed by the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers' Board and certified nationally by the Board of Certification to practice athletic training. Additionally, Gail is a Basic Life Support Instructor with the American Heart Association. She is currently the athletic trainer at Bexley High School through Nationwide Children’s Sports Medicine.
Before joining Nationwide Children’s Sports Medicine, Gail worked as a Senior Athletic Trainer for Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, providing outreach athletic training services to Savannah Country Day School for five and a half years. Gail also served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Georgia Southern University prior to her time with MUMC, and worked with volleyball, softball, football, women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s tennis while at GSU.
“I chose the athletic training profession because it combines my love for sports and for helping others,” says Gail. “It’s a natural fit for me and I enjoy the fact that no two days are ever the same.”
Brenda Young, ATC* (Email me)
Brenda Young is a certified and licensed athletic trainer. She received her bachelor's degree in Sports Medicine from Marietta College and her master's degree in athletic training from the University of Virginia. Prior to joining Nationwide Children's Sports Medicine Team, Brenda served as the assistant athletic trainer and clinical education coordinator at Otterbein College. She also worked in the Division I setting at The Ohio State University, Duke University, and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Brenda will be working at Nationwide Children’s Sports Medicine as a physician extender in our clinics and will be involved with the New U program as a component of our Healthy Weight and Nutrition program. She is actively involved with the Ohio Athletic Trainer's Association as the state representative for the annual student symposium and on the Athletic Training Student Committee.
She is married and has a son. In her free time she enjoys traveling, cooking, and visiting with family. "I am excited to have the opportunity to shift my career from the college setting to adolescent athletes. It is rewarding to have a career that allows me to be involved in a variety of different settings and roles."
Julie Young, MA, ATC, PES (Email me)
Julie Young is an athletic trainer with Children’s Sports Medicine and at Canal Winchester High School. She completed her undergraduate degree in athletic training at Mount Union College and received her master’s degree in exercise and sports science with a concentration in athletic training from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she worked with the women’s soccer team as well as the men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field teams.

While very active as an athletic trainer, Julie also enjoys swimming. As Julie explains about her career choice, “The best part of being an athletic trainer is the variety of activities I do — my days are never boring!”
