Sport Specific Injury Prevention Programs

The Personal Best Programs can be tailored for a variety of different sports. Nationwide Children's Sports Medicine experts will work with your team or organization to ensure that your young athletes compete in their sport safely and effectively. All programs include sports specific injury prevention training with an integrated core stability program.  Programs are currently available for the following sports:

  • Swimming – This program focuses on reducing the specific risk factors associated with shoulder injuries, a common complaint of swimmers, correcting poor posture, and creating a stable base of support in the shoulder girdle and core.
  • Golf – The Fit FORE the Fairway program focuses on flexibility, strength and power unique to the golf swing, and improving the dynamic transfer of strength from the lower body to the upper body.
  • Soccer – This program will focus on the functional activities needed to decrease the risk of injury and improve performance for soccer.  Included are exercises to improve jumping, landing and cutting that help reduce the stress on the knee.
  • Volleyball – This program is designed to reduce their risk of knee and shoulder injuries all too common in volleyball.  Included are functional activities to improve strength, vertical jump and power, balance and agility as well shoulder stability.
  • Basketball – This program is designed to improve the athletes functional body control to help reduce the risk of serious knee injuries. Included are exercises to improve agility and strength and dynamic control of the lower extremity
  • Football – This program focuses on the functional activities necessary to reduce the risk of injury for any position played on the field. Included are conditioning drills and exercises to improve overall power and agility.
  • Baseball – This program will focus on the functional activities needed to decrease the risk of injury and improve performance for baseball. Included are the exercises needed to increase the strength and stability of the shoulder and upper extremity and teach the participant how to recruit the strength of the entire body for the throwing motion.
  • Softball - This program will focus on the functional activities needed to decrease the risk of injury and improve performance for softball. Included are the exercises needed to increase the strength and stability of the shoulder and upper extremity and teach the participant how to recruit the strength of the entire body for the throwing motion
  • Cheerleading – This program is designed to prepare the athletes body for the stresses related to tumbling and landing. Included are activities to increase the strength of the upper and lower extremities as well as the low back. 
  • Running – Chronic injury can be a significant disability to the developing runner often resulting in lost training days or entire seasons.  Sports Specific Conditioning for Running is designed to improve common areas of weakness and imbalance that may result in chronic injury.  Major areas addressed include running technique, muscular imbalance, core strength, flexibility and mobility.
  • Figure Skating – This land based program will focus on functional activities to increase figure skating performance and to help decrease the incidence of overuse injuries. Included are exercises to improve the strength and power of the lower extremity, core strength and stability, dynamic control of the upper and lower extremities, as well as balance and agility.
  • Hockey – This land based program will focus on functional activities to improve hockey performance. Included are exercises designed to improve the strength and power of the upper and lower extremities, core strength and stability, agility of the upper and lower extremities, balance, and dynamic control of both the upper and lower extremity.

All of the above programs are available at your practice/game site and can be scheduled by calling (614) 355-6013. Team discounts are available and all participants will receive a Personal Best T-shirt and a Certificate of Completion.
