Research Training

Research education and training are vital to the mission of Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a top-ten free-standing pediatric research center and an academic affiliate of The Ohio State University, The Research Institute has an outstanding faculty, dedicated to training and mentoring the next generation of scientists in pediatric research. Mentoring is so important to our institutional culture and goals.

Investigators at The Research Institute are teaching faculty in various Departments at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, including the Departments of Pediatrics, Pathology, Surgery, Otolaryngology and Psychiatry. As a result, a large number of students and trainees are based at The Research Institute, including undergraduates, residents and fellows in pediatrics and pediatric surgery, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. For example, in academic year 2011, 50 graduate students received training on our campus.  Instruction occurs in informal and formal didactic sessions, one-on-one interactions, and hands-on laboratory training.
