High quality children’s books are the heart of Reach Out and Read® and essential to our program’s continued success. We rely heavily on the generous support of the central Ohio community to help us maintain our new and gently used book supply. Annually our program needs 150,000 books for our patients. Book donations are accepted year-round. Click through the page to get more information about how to get started.
The Reach Out and Read book drive is a time when people come together with a common goal of collecting books. Coordinating a Reach Out and Read book drive is an effective way to invest in the community and promote literacy for youth. Book drives benefiting Reach Out and Read can be a great project for service clubs, schools, and places of worship, youth groups, scout troops, companies, and birthday parties. We recommend tying your drive into an already occurring event. While our community book drive takes place every January – March, we do accept books year round.
Anyone is eligible to collect books for Reach Out and Read. Book drives can be held at any point throughout the year, and at any place. All materials to conduct your drive are provided. If your group would like to host a book drive for Reach Out and Read, please register your book drive using the Reach Out and Read Book Drive Registration link. Our office will contact you to verify the logistics of your drive.
Our community book drive takes place January – March; however we accept book donations year-round. There is no minimum collection amount required, and everyone is encouraged to participate.
We will provide everything you need to ensure a successful drive.
These items are beneficial to spreading the word about your drive and can help advertise your specific event.
Each year, the Nationwide Children’s Primary Care network has over 100,000 patient visits. By hosting a book drive, you can help ensure each of these children get to take a book home after their appointment.
Hosting a book drive is a great way to make a collective impact on your community. For your participation, we will list your community partnership on our website as well as highlight your achievements at our annual celebration event. Organizations/individuals who collect the most books during our annual book drive are recognized with the Reach Out and Read Community Champion Award*.
The Reach Out and Read Community Champion Award is given each year to the school or organization that donated the most books during the annual community book drive. These donors are literacy advocates in their local community and help to promote a love of family engagement and reading.
Last year’s Reach Out and Read community champion award was given to South Western City Schools for collecting over 9,300 books!
