Nationwide Children's Hospital serves Region IV, the largest perinatal region in the State of Ohio, which includes the primarily rural, Appalachian region of southeastern Ohio as well as the bordering counties of West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Kentucky.
This region accounts for more than a quarter of all premature births in Ohio and is compounded by lower socioeconomic and education levels, a shortage of health care providers and distance from tertiary care.
For over 27 years, Children’s Regional Perinatal Outreach Program has partnered with local health care providers to provide educational programs and other related services to ensure the best quality care for their newborn population, before and after their birth.
Currently, the program is educating providers at 31 hospitals and 39 health departments with the following programs:
Neonatal Resuscitation (provider and instructor courses)
Comprehensive Nursing Care of the Sick Newborn
Care of the NICU Graduate
Neonatal Skills Workshop
