The Lucchesi Lab focuses on the complex interactions between hemodynamic and transmural forces, neurohormones and oxidative lead to activation of signaling cascades that regulate cardiovascular remodeling and function during disease progression. A conbination of animal models, in vivo measurements of blood flow, cardiac function (echocardiography and pressure-volume conductance catheters), in situ measurements of vessel structure, single cell-functional analysis and biochemical, molecular and proteomic approaches are used to characterize disease progression. Ongoing projects include the role the renin-angiotensin system and advanced glycation end products in Type 2 diabetes-associated coronary artery remodeling; molecular mechanisms that reverse heart failure progression in response to hemodynamic overload; cardiac chamber- and vascular bed-specific remodeling; and ductus arteriosus pathophysiology.
