  • Treat common symptoms of serious illness including, but not limited to, pain, nausea, vomiting, breathlessness, delirium, constipation, and secretions

  • Anticipate, educate, and guide families and health care workers about what symptoms may occur in the future and how to prevent and/or treat

  • Provide families with on-call staff with palliative care expertise
