OSHCC

Join us for the 3rd International Symposium on the Oral-Systemic Health Connection in Children (OSHCC) on October 9, 2009 at NorthPointe Conference Center, Columbus, Ohio.

About the Program

This international dental meeting is being sponsored by the department of Dentistry at the Nationwide Children's Hospital and the section of Pediatric Dentistry at OSU College of Dentistry. The goal of the symposium is to discuss the connections between oral health and systemic health in children and the implications they have in the delivery of oral and dental care. Many childhood disorders and conditions such as cancer, cardiac disease, diabetes, craniofacial syndromes, etc, have head, neck and oral manifestations. Furthermore, the medical therapies used in their treatment may also cause disturbances in the oral cavity which in many cases may be permanent. Because of advances in medical technology, these patients are surviving longer nowadays. Therefore, the dental professional must be aware of these interactions in order to provide safe dental care and to increase the patient’s quality of life. Several renowned national and international speakers have confirmed their presence. This course will offer 6.5 CE's.

Dental symposium objectives

  1. Understand the effects of medical therapies in the oral cavity and in the development of the craniofacial complex of children;
  2. Understand the importance of good oral health for the successful outcome of medical therapies and for the quality of life of children and adolescents with special health care needs;
  3. Understand the implications of medical conditions and their treatment in the delivery of dental and oral care for children and adolescents with special health care needs.
