‘Slice of Columbus’ returns for its 18th year as Columbus’ largest pizza event 5-10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007 at Lifestyle Communities Pavilion. Twenty area pizza shops will serve their most savory pies as they vie to be named “Best of Columbus” by a panel of local celebrities and chefs. All proceeds from the event will benefit pediatric cancer research at Columbus Children’s Hospital. Slice of Columbus is organized by the Development Board of Children’s Hospital, which raised nearly $100,000 to benefit programs at Children’s Hospital in 2006.
Admission is $10 in advance and $12 at the door for adults and children 13-years-old and older, and free for children 12-years-old and younger. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample unlimited pizza and vote for their favorite pie with the “People’s Choice Award.” The event also will feature live entertainment and activities for children.

In conjunction with Slice of Columbus, the ‘Art with Heart’ magnet promotion, sponsored by Huntington Bank, returns for its third year. Now through Sept. 12, four limited-edition magnets featuring original artwork by Children’s patients will be on sale to benefit Children’s Hospital. The magnets are available for $1 at Huntington Bank branches, Adriatico’s Pizza and Culvers.
The artwork of four Children’s Hospital patients was selected for the magnet promotion. Gracie Johnston was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. She was admitted to Children’s for three days and learned how to monitor the disease. With the support of Children’s Endocrinology, a national leader in diabetes research and clinical care, Gracie will lead a full and active life that is as bright and cheerful as her artwork!
Noah Schafer was a year and a half old when his dad found a suspicious lump in his tummy. Doctor’s at Children’s discovered that Noah had cancer; the only form of treatment would be a bone marrow transplant. Thanks to the expert care he received at Children’s, Noah is cancer free and hanging pictures like the one featured on his magnet on his mom’s fridge.
Catie Bogenrief was born weighing only 2 pounds, 10 ounces. When complications arose, she was rushed to Children’s Hospital for life saving surgery and care by physicians trained to treat the tiniest, sickest babies in central Ohio. Since then Catie has grown into a healthy active teenager with a passion for ballet and a flare for the arts.
Cody Storch suffered a concussion after a biking accident, so his parents brought him to Children’s Emergency Department. They were thankful for the expert care they received from the No. 1-ranked pediatric emergency department in the nation, according Child magazine. Today, Cody is safely riding his bike and directs his creative energy toward his art.
