Farm Safety Day Camp for Ross County Kids July 2

The SPARK Project collaborates with community groups to host safety event


Columbus, OH - 6/6/2013

The Safe Play Areas for Ross County Kids (SPARK) Project in the Center for Injury Research and Policy (CIRP) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital has teamed up with the Ohio State University Extension Office and the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation to host a Farm Safety Day Camp 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Hirsch’s Fruit Farm, located at 12846 State Route 772, Chillicothe, Ohio.

As part of the day camp, local experts will present on various safety topics including fire, water, animal, poisons, emergency preparedness, tractors, ATVs, CPR and grain safety. A medical helicopter, provided by Air Evac, will serve as a safety station, as well as tractors and mowers provided by JD equipment. Presenters include staff from the Ohio Division of the State Fire Marshall, the Ross County Extension office, Air Evac, the Ross County Farm Bureau, Ross County Red Cross and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, among others.

The interactive learning stations are designed for children between 5-12 years of age, and adults are welcome to attend with their children or grandchildren. Gift bags, door prizes and free T-shirts will be available while supplies last.

The event is made possible with funding from the Central Benefits Health Care Foundation, the Ohio State University Extension, and the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation, with generous support from the Ross County Kids Injury Prevention Coalition (KIP-C).
