Daniel Barr Named Vice President and Service Line Administrator for Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplantation at Nationwide Children’s Hospital

Daniel E. Barr, MHSA, FACHE, recently was appointed as the new vice president and service line administrator for Hematology/Oncology / Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

He previously served as the director of Service Line Development for Women’s and Children’s Services at University Hospitals (UH) Case Medical Center, Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and MacDonald Women’s Hospital in Cleveland. Prior to UH, he was the assistant CEO of Chestnut Hill Health System, part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System in Philadelphia, PA.  

Barr earned his bachelor’s degree from Stetson University and his master’s degree in Health Service Administration from the University of Central Florida. He also completed Executive Education focused on Strategy and Management from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

As vice president, Barr will be responsible for the overall operational and financial performance of Hematology/Oncology/BMT at Nationwide Children’s.   He will partner with The Ohio State University College of Medicine Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT division chief Timothy Cripe, MD, and the Hematology/Oncology/BMT team to develop and execute a strategic plan that will focus on key areas including research funding, employee engagement and national reputation.

The Hematology/Oncology/BMT team at Nationwide Children’s treats a full array of blood disorders, cancers, immune-deficiency disorders, bone marrow failure syndromes and inherited metabolic storage diseases. In addition to treatment, the team is committed to advancing both basic and clinical research in these areas. The division maintains active membership in the Children’s Oncology Group and the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Consortium, and is a research member of the International Blood and Marrow Transplant Registry. Hematology/Oncology/BMT staff works hand-in-hand with the Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Diseases to expand the understanding of childhood cancer and to improve strategies for its diagnosis and treatment.
