Columbus Children’s Hospital Reach Out and Read Program Book Drive Celebration
Tuesday, March 20, 2007; 1:50 p.m. – media opportunity
Ohio at Kent Elementary School – Gymnasium

Columbus, Ohio 43205
With more than 3,100 Reach Out and Read (ROR) Programs nationwide, Columbus Children’s Hospital is proud to be among the largest. Each year, Children’s ROR along with community partners, hold a three-month community-wide book drive collecting new and gently used books to raise literacy awareness throughout central Ohio. It is through the generous support of the community that enables Children’s Hospital pediatricians to help encourage family literacy in the home prior to a child’s entrance into the school system.
Since January 2007, more than 30,000 books have been donated to Children’s ROR Program. Tuesday’s event will celebrate this successful book drive at Ohio at Kent Elementary School. Students will get a visit from two Ohio at Kent alumni, Archie Griffin and Angela Pace, and enjoy a story telling by children’s author Lynn Ford. Canal Winchester cheerleaders are a part of the celebration, as well as Olivia Thomas, MD, chief of Ambulatory Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital and Claudia Barrett, ROR program coordinator.
Sponsors include: The Ohio State University Alumni Association, All American Moving and Storage, The Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics Foundation, WBNS 10TV, Central OEA/NEA and Half Price Books.
