The New U Weekly Program is a 12-week weight loss program designed for obese children from 11-18 years old. Each week, the patient and their parent/support person attend a nutrition lecture for 30 minutes and two 60 minute sessions of physical activity. In addition, they meet with other members of the team (i.e. physicians, surgeons, psychologists, dieticians) during regular office visits.
As an intern, you would be involved in leading the exercises, conducting patient interviews and performing goal setting with individual patients. You would also have the opportunity to participate in research, data collection and program design. The internship hours take place on Monday/Wednesday (at Franklin Park Conservatory Adventure Center) and Tuesday/Thursday (at Westerville Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center) evenings from 4:30pm-9:00pm with some additional research/data collection/program design hours required at flexible times based on student and staff availability. Candidates for the internship need no specific qualifications other than an interest in a health care/fitness field. Coupled with our truly unique patient population, this multi-dimensional internship will allow you to implement classroom learning in a real world setting.
This internship is offered year round based on the academic calendar. All posted deadlines are flexible as we will continue to accept applications until a qualified candidate is secured. Please contact the New U team (NewUIntern@NationwideChildrens.org) with any questions.
