Corey Raffel, MD, PhD - Chief of Neurosurgery



 Corey Raffel, MD, PhD

Dr. Raffel is Chief of Neurosurgery at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and a professor of Neurosurgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He is a graduate of Harvard University and the University of California-San Diego, where he received his MD and his PhD in biology. Dr. Raffel did his neurosurgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario. Prior to joining Nationwide Children’s, Dr. Raffel worked for more than 12 years at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery, he is a member of numerous professional and community societies, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons, American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Neurological Surgeons, and the American Brain Tumor Association, where he currently sits on the Scientific Advisory Council. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles, written more than 30 book chapters and has presented at more than 100 national and international meetings. His research interests include tumor suppressor genes and oncogenes in medulloblastoma, tumor stem cells in medulloblastoma, and oncolytic viral therapy for pediatric brain tumors. He has a special interest in the surgical treatment of brain tumors and epilepsy. Dr. Raffel was named among the “Best Doctors in America” in 2009.

Edward J. Kosnik, MD, FACS, FAAP



 Edward Kosnik, MD, FACS, FAAP

Dr. Kosnik is Associate Medical Director of the Department of Surgery and a surgeon in the Section of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He is also a Clinical Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Kosnik practices both adult and pediatric neurosurgery. His special interests are in the treatment of pediatric brain tumors, hydrocephalus, craniostenosis and various other congenital abnormalities and spasticity. Dr. Kosnik obtained his bachelor of science degree from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland, and his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he graduated cum laude. He completed his surgical internship at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City and participated in a neurological residency at New York University’s Bellevue Medical Center. His neurosurgical residency took place at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Riverside Methodist Hospital. Dr. Kosnik has authored many papers on neurology and neurosurgery on the topics of spinal cord defects, brain and spinal cord injuries, and tumors and surgical techniques. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery and a member of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees. Dr. Kosnik was named among the “Best Doctors in America” in 2009.

Ronald Thomas Grondin, MD, MSc, FRCSC



Ronald Thomas Grondin, MD, MSc, FRCSC

Dr. Grondin is a pediatric neurosurgeon at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and an assistant professor of Neurosurgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at the University of Waterloo, in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, followed by his master’s degree in molecular and medical genetics at the University of Toronto and the Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto, Canada. He obtained his medical degree at Queen’s University School of Medicine, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Grondin completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Calgary, and completed a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at Children’s Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School in 2008. Dr. Grondin is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the Canadian Neurosurgical Society. Dr. Grondin’s clinical interests include the surgical treatment of epilepsy, neuroendoscopic management of hydrocephalus and craniosynostosis, and pediatric neurovascular disease. Dr. Grondin was named among the “Best Doctors in America” in 2009.
