How you can benefit by becoming a T32 Fellow.

Advances in health care require speedy and effective translation of promising scientific discoveries into patient treatment. Successful "bench to bedside" research depends upon physician scientists askin clinically relevant questions, formulating clinical observations into high quality research studies, and documenting medical advances using the results. Could you be one of those physician-scientists?

T32 Training Programs, funded by the National Institutes of Health, provide fellows with research skills, training, mentoring and time to become leaders of science in their field. T32 trainees have unique opportunities to network with top researchers in a wide range of related fields. T32 trainees are more likely to receive research grant support. In short, they gain a competitive edge to launch a successful pediatric research career.

Physician Fellows in T32 Training Programs:

  • Spend a minimum of two years undergoing continuous (40 hours/ week) research training
  • Continue to engage in limited clinical work (such as working in a continuity clinic) during the 24 months of research
  • Receive the same stipend as their clinical colleagues at the same PGY level
  • Are mentored by an expert team of experienced faculty members who provide scientific and career guidance
  • Have additional resources to pursue professional development opportunities
  • Gain skills necessary to apply for future research grant support, present at national meetings and get work accepted in peer reviewed journals.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • MD or DO enrolled in good-standing in a Nationwide Children's Hospital fellowship program
  • U.S. Citizen on noncitizen national
  • Commitment to an academic career which includes basic, clinical. and/or translational research
  • Graduate degree (master's or PhD) desirable, but not required.
