The goal of the Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship Program is to produce well trained and proficient pediatric nephrologists. This is achieved by combining broad clinical exposure in pediatric nephrology and related disciplines with tailored research experiences and attentive instruction and learning opportunities. The fellowship program fulfills all requirements for pediatric subspecialty board certification by the American Board of Pediatrics and is fully accredited by the American College of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Description of Program
Year 1
| Outpatient | One half-day Pediatric Nephrology Fellow Clinic per week |
| Inpatient and Dialysis | Four months Pediatric Nephrology Service (All inpatient and dialysis activities, including dialysis and transplant clinics), one month Nationwide Children’s Dialysis Service |
| Clinical Laboratory | One month Pediatric Renal Pathology |
| Research | Six months dedicated to research seminars and initiation of a mentored research project |
| Call | Monday through Thursday during the 4 Pediatric Nephrology Service months and every 4th weekend throughout the year with a Pediatric Nephrology Attending |
| Renal Biopsies | The fellow will perform at least 30 native and renal transplant biopsies during training to achieve competency in this important skill. |

Year 2
| Outpatient | One half-day Pediatric Nephrology Fellow Clinic per week |
| Inpatient | Three months Pediatric Nephrology Service (all inpatient, and dialysis activities including transplant and dialysis clinics) and one Month Pediatric Urology Service |
| Research | Eight months dedicated to the Fellow’s research project(s) |
| Call | Monday through Thursday of the 3 Pediatric Nephrology Service months and every 4th weekend throughout the year with a Pediatric Nephrology Attending |

Year 3
| Outpatient | One half-day Pediatric Nephrology Fellow Clinic per week |
| Inpatient | Two months Pediatric Nephrology Service (all inpatient, and dialysis activities including transplant and dialysis clinics) and one month Ohio State University Adult Renal Transplant Service. Additional elective clinical rotations can be arranged. |
| Research | Nine months dedicated to the Fellow’s research project(s) |
| Call | Monday through Thursday of the 2 Pediatric Nephrology Service months and every 4th weekend throughout the year with a Pediatric Nephrology Attending |

Nationwide Children’s Hospital has a variety of available conferences and presentations open to fellows. Each fellow will be expected and supported to attend 1-2 national nephrology or scientific conferences during each year of training.
