2/14/2011 The people of Columbus have so many reasons to be proud of our great city and I encourage everyone to join me in the Miracles at Play movement. This is a wonderful new way for the community to unite together to celebrate our children and the amazing work of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Today, on Valentine’s Day, I was honored to help dedicate the dramatic 12-story “Miracles |
at Play” Wallscape. It is amazing because of its size but more importantly, the story behind this monumental effort. Thanks to the amazing generosity of Nationwide Insurance this entire wallscape has been donated to the hospital. This is one more example of Nationwide’s giving spirit as one of Columbus’ most philanthropic corporate citizens.
Today’s celebration is also noteworthy because we celebrate Columbus’ 199th Birthday (our city was founded on this day in 1812) and can now begin the exciting countdown to our city’s 2012 Bicentennial.
One of the most significant initiatives we will celebrate during the Bicentennial will be the opening of the new main hospital at Nationwide Children’s. Our children’s hospital is a point of pride for Columbus, and it has been a catalyst for innovation and economic growth in our community. Nationwide Children’s has grown up in our city – from humble beginnings to becoming nationally recognized as a leader in pediatric health care and research. As we look to what will be a year-long celebration in 2012, Nationwide Children’s will hold a special place among the many accomplishments this city has made in its 200 years.
Making the health and safety of our residents top priority is the cornerstone of a strong, vibrant city. The Miracles at Play movement unites our community by helping our children to enjoy longer and better lives. I encourage you to join me in participating in Miracles at Play and also to get involved in our city’s Bicentennial celebrations – The best is yet to come!
