This summer, a record number of employees – 70 percent – participated in the employee satisfaction survey, which we use to measure employee engagement. The results offer a powerful insight to employees’ feelings toward their job, their manager and our organization.
The areas you said are our strengths include quality, customer service and concern for our patients. Some of the biggest improvements noted since the last survey included how well we all work together, our benefits and training opportunities.
Staff also indicated several opportunities for improvement. These varied by department, but top opportunities included pay, staffing and various management issues.
As part of Nationwide Children’s overall action plan, the hospital has already made some changes related to staffing, including a new winter staffing initiative for inpatient nursing. The hospital will evaluate other steps to improve staff satisfaction over the coming week/months. Some staff will be asked to participate in employee focus groups in early 2013. You’ll be hearing more about this work as it gets underway.
At the Department Level
Your manager will review your area’s individual results with your team soon, if they haven’t done so already.
Departments will be developing action plans to address areas with the potential for improvement.
