Training: High School Summer Scientists Share Their Work

As a final internship project, summer scientists participated in formal poster presentations at The Research Institute

On August 10, 2012, eight high school students participating in The Research Institute’s Summer Scientist Internship program presented scientific posters to research staff and principal investigators.  The presentations were a capstone event to their two-month internships.

During their time at The Research Institute, the students worked with a researcher and experienced hands-on lab work.  To add to their science experience, they:

  • Attended Clinical Research Seminar Series talks each week, focusing on grant writing, ethics, statistics, career development and research design
  • Attended weekly lectures from invited scientists from within and outside our organization
  • Received training on human subjects protections, research animal safety, laboratory safe practices and biohazard materials safety training

Programs like the Summer Scientists Internship continue to reinforce our leadership in the local scientific community as we train the next generation of scientists.
