As a leader in the treatment of pediatric neurological disorders the Section of Neurology at Nationwide Children's Hospital has begun offering a pediatric stroke clinic – one of only a few such clinics in the country. Neurology Chief E. Steve Roach, MD, said that although stroke was once considered rare among children, it occurs much more often than was suspected. The stroke clinic was established to provide specialized care to children who have had a stroke or those who have a higher than usual risk for stroke. The clinic provides the family with easy access to evaluations by child neurologists with a special interest in childhood stroke as well as psychologists, physical and occupational therapists, and other professionals as needed.
