Safety - Awareness - Training Updates

(From the March 2014 issue of Research Now)

1. Lab Inspections
Laboratory inspections will occur in May/June and in September/October of 2014. You will be given notification of the week your center is scheduled for inspection; your lab will be inspected at some point during that week.

2. Training Documentation
Training documentation is required for all research staff with potential for exposure to hazardous biological or chemical agents or who work in a "wet lab" environment. Training documentation forms will be verified by Research Safety in May/June of 2014. These documents should be maintained in one location in your area for review by Research Safety.

3. CITI Special Laboratory Hazards Course
This course is required for anyone with possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, compressed gases, liquid nitrogen, autoclaves, or centrifuges. This is a NEW requirement for 2014 and completion will be verified by Research Safety in September/October. Click here for the CITI website. Click on "Add a course" and select the Special Lab Hazards Course to proceed to the modules.

4. Zero Hero Employee Safety
All NCH employees are required to attend a 30-minute Zero Hero Employee Safety training class by June 30, 2014. Unless you are a manager or supervisor who attended training in the fall, this is a NEW requirement for 2014 and the material was not covered in previous Zero Hero training. Please register to attend a training class in CHEX.
