(From the August 2015 Issue of MedStat)
Patients needing routine postnatal circumcisions (no chordee, hypospadias or other concerns) may be referred to either Pediatric Surgery or Urology for evaluation and circumcision. If the wait time to see either group is longer than two weeks, the scheduling staff will offer to the family the opportunity to schedule with whichever service has the soonest opening. Timeliness of the appointment is important because families appreciate having the circumcision completed in a clinic rather than operating room setting where co-pays/deductibles are higher and to avoid the need for general anesthesia. This time frame is not applicable to older, larger patients who cannot be circumcised in the clinic setting.
