Physician Resources for Safe Opioid Prescribing

Columbus, OH — April 2017

Opioid and prescription drug abuse is an epidemic throughout the United States for all ages. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 17.3 percent of those who abuse prescription painkillers are prescribed medication from a physician. So it is critical that health care providers understand how to prescribe opioids safely.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital has created an Opioid Task Force consisting of pediatric physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, community educators, nurses, and quality improvement specialists to address this issue and to educate prescribing clinicians locally and nationally on best practices.

The following resources have been developed by the Opioid Task Force for primary-care providers.
