Genetic Counselor, McBride Lab
When: 2:45 p.m.
Every day, researchers at Nationwide Children’s are learning more about patients at risk of passing their medical problems onto their children. Sara Fitzgerald-Butt, a genetic counselor in the Center for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Research, measures health behaviors with a particular focus on adolescents and young adults with heart defects. Sara is trying to discover what motivates these individuals to take protective measures such as learning more about their own heart defect and the risk to their offspring in addition to talking to their partner and their other doctors about these topics. After more than eight years in research at Nationwide Children’s, Sara says she is still excited by the ever-changing world of genetics.
