The Research Informatics Core at The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s received the 2012 Outstanding Service (+250 Employees) Award at the 2012 TechColumbus Innovation Awards announced February 7, 2013.
The core was recognized for their innovation through the methodology implemented within a free-standing research institute, the solutions created that fill the gap in the market, and the utilization of technologies developed for other verticals applied to life sciences (e.g. gaming).
The Research Informatics Core is a cutting-edge, innovative, and value-added technical service entity within The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s. The core provides services in data integration, mobile application development, image analysis, data warehousing, and custom application development.
Peter White, PhD, director of the Biomedical Genomics Core, was also honored at the awards as a semi-finalist for TechColumbus’ Innovator of the Year. Dr. White was nominated for “Churchill,” a computational pipeline that can analyze a human genome sequencing experiment in a matter of hours, making it a prime candidate to overcome the data bottleneck that the next-generation sequencing boom has created.
