Steven D. Goodman, PhD, has joined the Center for Microbial Pathogenesis as a principal investigator. Dr. Goodman is an expert in gene biology, with a special interest in biofilms, including those playing a role in dental plaque and tooth decay. The Goodman lab is examining gene regulation in biofilms, identifying genes involved in bacterial surface detection and attachment, studying how genes are spread from one bacterium to another (including genes that encode antibiotic resistance), and examining the role bacterial histones play in bacterial DNA repair.
