Nilsa Ramirez, MD, has been designated the first Regional Commissioner for the College of American Pathologists’ Biorepository Accreditation Program. This three-year, peer-based accreditation program is meant to further strengthen the quality of patient care and ensure consistent, verifiable quality of biospecimens and biorepositories lacking in the current environment.
In her role as commissioner, Dr. Ramirez will be responsible for all accreditation activities associated with biorepositories in the US. The activities include the assignment of inspectors, review of inspection findings, and resolution of issues that may arise over accreditation decisions. Following on-site inspections, she will review the findings and the biorepository’s corrective actions, and contribute to any follow-up necessary to reach an accreditation decision. Dr. Ramirez’ designation reflects her leadership role within Nationwide Children’s Biopathology Center and our hospital’s 20-plus-year history of outstanding biospecimen banking.
