Nahla Zaghloul, MD, from the Section of Neonatology, received a KL2 Scholar Award from the OSU Center for Clinical and Translational Science (OSU-CCTS) for her research focused on prevention and treatment of brain injury in premature infants.
Her current research includes studying inhibition of microglia NF-κB and astroglia NF-kB as a novel therapeutic approach for periventricular leukomalacia (PVL). A white matter injury, PVL is the most common form of serious neuropathologic brain injury in the NICU. It underlies most of the neurologic morbidity (motor, cognitive, attention, behavioral and visual deficits) encountered in survivors of premature birth.
