Nilsa C. Ramirez, MD, FCAP, and Medical Director of the Biopathology Center, was recently appointed to the “ISO/TC276 Task Group Terms and Definitions (Nr1) Biotechnology.” of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). As part of her role, she is also leading U.S. Biobank and Bioresources mirror task group. ISO is an international standard-setting body made up of members from the national standards bodies of 162 countries; it is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. International Standards provide state of the art specifications for products, services and good practice and benefit society and the environment. ISO Standards cover many areas including food, water, sustainable development and health. Dr. Ramirez was appointed in relation to her work with the College of American Pathologists (CAP) which serves patients, pathologists, and the public by fostering and advocating excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine worldwide. She also chairs the CAP’s Biorepository Accreditation Program Committee.
