New Questionnaire Required for Genetic Hypermobility Evaluation

Starting August 1, the Molecular and Human Genetics Clinic is asking that referrers complete a new questionnaire prior to scheduling patients for Ehlers-Danlos (EDS) or hypermobility evaluation. Many patients being referred who have joint hypermobility as their primary presenting feature do not need to be evaluated by a clinical geneticist. The information in the questionnaire will help determine if evaluation by a genetics specialist is needed. Most likely genetic testing will only be performed if a patient meets clinical criteria for a different, well-described, gene-based condition. However, if requested, a geneticist can provide families information and answer their questions. Download a copy of the new questionnaire.

Homecare Update for RSV Patient Referrals

As Homecare prepares for another RSV Season, we’d like to report that in 2016-17 we saw referrals increase. However, thanks to teamwork with the referring providers, patient compliance also increased. Knowing the severe complications that can result from RSV in young children with heart and lung conditions and premature babies, we are encouraged by this improvement in compliance. Working as one team with practices we are continuing to remind providers that all patient paperwork needs to be complete and timely so patients can be dosed with Synagis every 28-31 days. In order for the patient to be eligible for home visits under Medicaid and Medicaid Managed Care Plans, the practitioner is required to perform a face-to-face visit either 90 days prior or within 30 days after the first homecare visit. The face-to-face medical necessity document must be submitted to Homecare for ongoing care and billing.

Our Homecare Liaison and Care Coordinator are scheduling meetings with practices to provide updated information and referral forms for the upcoming RSV Season, as well as providing information via email. If you have not been contacted by Homecare with RSV Season Updates and would like us to email or visit your practice, contact Homecare Liaison Carolyn Figi at Carolyn.Figi@NationwideChildrens.org
