(From the January 2014 Issue of MedStat)
Pediatric Surgery is trialing a new single visit surgery program. This program offers families of children with no co-morbidities to be seen at a clinic appointment, and then, if it is determined that surgery is needed, have the procedure performed that day a few hours later. If a child qualifies for this opportunity the parents are asked in advance of the visit if they would like to participate. There is never any pressure to participate, and the choice is theirs. Lisa Deming, Nursing Clinical Leader in Pediatric Surgery, works with central scheduling to obtain referrals that they think will qualify and contacts the families to describe the program.
