(From the October 2013 Issue of MedStat)
In collaboration with our local community physician offices and health departments and in concordance with CDC and AAP vaccination guidelines, Nationwide Children’s is offering flu vaccine to all patients. Patients who qualify for the vaccine and who are seen by a physician in a Nationwide Children’s facility will be offered the vaccine. The clinical note sent to primary care providers after the visit with specialists will include verification the flu vaccine was received.
For all primary care physicians, please consider the significance of this announcement and help the Columbus community in our goal to approach optimal compliance with this important health initiative. Consider scheduling your practice’s flu vaccine program early in the season and please help us complete the series for patients who require two vaccines this season. We also suggest that practices look closely at patients’ auto fax reports from specialists for receipt of the flu vaccine to update individual patient immunization schedules. Finally, we recommend that office personnel inquire with each family to confirm if they have received the flu vaccine from another source (i.e., pharmacy, grocery store, another medical office).
