Through an aggressive improvement initiative, Nationwide Children’s is ensuring patients are safe from preventable harm. International health care experts named Nationwide Children’s as the Patient Safety Category Winner in the 2013 Pediatric Quality Award. These annual awards are given by the Children’s Hospital Association for exceptional clinical and business improvements in children’s hospitals that are making a significant impact on health care for sick children. This project was selected as the category winner from more than 85 entries. Nationwide Children’s achieved success by using a proven improvement model to collect data from multiple hospital departments, creating “huddles” to learn from each event and training staff on new processes to ensure all elements of best care were implemented to prevent harm.
