Nathalie L. Maitre, MD, PhD, Selected to Lead Early Recognition and Intervention Initiative for Cerebral Palsy

The Cerebral Palsy Foundation has selected Nathalie L. Maitre, MD, PhD, director of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Developmental Therapies and Follow-up Programs at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, to lead a novel Early Recognition and Intervention Initiative for Cerebral Palsy.

Dr. Maitre will collaborate with the Cerebral Palsy Foundation to develop a process, toolkit and support elements in order to diagnose cerebral palsy earlier than after a child’s second birthday as current medical methods allow. She is a part of the Foundation’s collaboration with six of the country’s top medical institutions working to better predict developmental differences in neonatal follow-up clinics.

The project has been awarded $1.5 million in funding and will be completed in 2020. Dr. Maitre currently works with the Cerebral Palsy Foundation as a member of its Scientific Advisory Committee, helping to guide the strategic direction of the Foundation’s work and comprised of renowned leaders in the scientific and medical community.
