The First Patient

The first patient recorded as an inpatient was diagnosed as “hip joint disease” and was hospitalized from February 8, 1894 until August 7, 1894 with a history of Tb and a mother and brother with hip joint disease. Treatment was: cod liver oil, extension and Cascara. All physician notes, including progress notes, were only on one page. Attending was Dr. S. Allen.
