Introducing eCores, a New Way to Access Shared Resources

Users of The Research Institute's Cores Services will soon have a new way to request equipment and services.

The Research Institute is implementing a new online system called eCores (short for “Enterprise Core Ordering & Reporting Electronic System”) that is intended to optimize the Core Services ordering and billing process. Accessible via the web, eCores allows users of The Research Institute’s 14 Core Services to place service requests, reserve equipment via an online calendar, receive pricing information, monitor their order progress and view order history.  The system also integrates with Navision, The Research Institute’s accounting system, so the billing process can be standardized among all Cores.

“There has been significant variability in how services and equipment are requested and billed among The Research Institute’s Core Services,” said Larry Hoff, manager of Research Information Services Applications and Development team.  “eCores will help enhance The Research Institute’s infrastructure by streamlining these processes and increasing accessibility to these shared resources.”

The Research Informatics Core is the first to launch the eCores system and director Dave Billiter, MBA, PMP, is looking forward to the changes the new process will bring.  “eCores will provide Core Services consumers a more standardized process, which should aid in optimizing workflow and communication,” said Billiter.  The Biomedical Genomics Core and the Transgenic and Embryonic Stem Cell Core are also among the first to begin using eCores; the remainder of the Cores will begin using the system during first and second quarter of 2011.

Since eCores will be accessible via the web, faculty and staff will be able to access the ordering system while off site.   It also provides an opportunity for external clients to utilize The Research Institute’s Core services.

eCores is made possible through a collaboration with iLab Solutions.
