(From the November 2012 issue of Inside Nationwide Children's)
In 2008, Nationwide Children’s launched the Healthy Neighborhoods, Healthy Families (HNHF) initiative to make a positive difference for our neighbors and our surrounding community. After all, Nationwide Children’s has proudly called the area around our downtown campus home for more than 120 years.
Through partnerships with United Way of Central Ohio, Community Development for All People and the City of Columbus, HNHF has improved 86 homes in Columbus’ South Side neighborhood. Some of these homes have been completely renovated while others have benefited from the home repair grant program. To date, HNHF has sold a total of twenty-one homes and there are 13 more homes currently on the market.
Here’s a look at what HNHF has accomplished so far this year.
What’s next for HNHF?
A new partnership with the South Side Renaissance is taking the home renovation and repair effort even further into the neighborhood. With the help of HNHF, South Side Renaissance aims to complete 16 owner-occupied home repairs and two full rehabs.
