Orthopedics New Referring Physician Communications

The Department of Orthopedics at Nationwide Children’s is now offering enhanced opportunities for communication with referring and primary care physicians to ensure the patient’s entire care team is familiar with the orthopedic diagnosis and recommended treatment plan.

Referrals — Orthopedic Surgery has dedicated staff to receive and respond to physician referrals. When a referral is sent, the family will receive a phone call within two business days of receiving a referral.

Appointment Confirmation — Each time an appointment for a new patient is scheduled, the referring and primary care physician(s) will receive a fax confirmation with the appointment date, time, location and the name of the surgeon the patient will see.

Post-Visit Notes — Once the appointment is complete, the referring and primary care physician(s) will receive a fax with the orthopedic surgeon’s visit notes. This fax will generally be sent within 7-10 days of the appointment.
