John A. Barnard, MD, President of The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, has been appointed as both Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Chief of Pediatrics at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Under Dr. Barnard’s tenure, The Research Institute has thrived as one of the fastest growing in the country and a top 10 NIH-funded freestanding pediatric research facility. This expanded role further taps his full potential as a world-class physician, researcher and academician. Dr. Barnard will continue to serve as President of The Research Institute while also overseeing the clinical, teaching and academic activities of more than 500 pediatric trainees, clinicians and scientists who hold joint appointments at Nationwide Children’s and The Ohio State University College of Medicine. In this role he will serve as the Chief Executive Officer of The Pediatric Academic Association, which is the Department of Pediatrics’ faculty physician practice plan based at Nationwide Children’s. He will also oversee all medical student teaching activities taking place at Nationwide Children’s through the University and the College of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics. This appointment solidifies the hospital’s strategic goal of fully integrating research and clinical care programs at Nationwide Children’s.
