Advancing Care Through Quality Improvement

Columbus, OH - January 2016

Nationwide Children’s Hospital has been prioritizing quality improvement since 2008, when the Zero Hero program began with the aim of reducing preventable harm to zero. The mission of Nationwide Children’s and the Section of Endocrinology is to continually improve the quality of care at every level for every patient. In alignment with Nationwide Children’s strategic plan “Journey to Best Outcomes,” the Section of Endocrinology’s wide portfolio of quality improvement initiatives includes projects aligned with the five areas of strategic focus: “Keep Me Well,” “Heal Me, Cure Me,” “Do Not Harm Me,” “Navigate My Care” and “Treat Me With Respect.” Currently, we have more than 10 active quality initiatives focusing on care for patients with diabetes in motion.

In this report, we highlight the following four initiatives:

  • Pattern Recognition Management
  • Young Adult Diabetes Transition Program
  • Diabetes Mellitus Comprehensive Care Clinic
  • Depression Screening
