The Research Institute completed its 2013 Summer Scientist Internship Program on August 2 with a poster competition and the presentation of the 2013 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Tomorrow’s Scientist Award. Nine student applicants were selected from Columbus City Schools for the internship program, which included individual mentoring by a faculty member and a final poster presentation and judging. The award included a $1,000 scholarship in the winning student’s name to the college, school or university he or she will attend.
This year’s Tomorrow’s Scientist Award was presented by Dr. John Barnard to Malanie Berry. Malanie’s mentor was Jennifer Edwards, PhD, and the title of her poster was “Studies of the interaction of Kingella kingae with human pharyngeal cells.”
