Biography

Maria J. Henwood, DO, is a member of the Section of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Henwood received her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997. She did a one-year internship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, followed by a residency in pediatrics at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey. She then completed a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from 2001 to 2004. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in both general pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology. Dr. Henwood is actively involved in medical student and resident education and active in lecturing locally and regionally. Her clinical and research interests include disorders of the adrenal gland and metabolic bone disease. Administratively, she is the Associate Program Director of the Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship training program, Clinic Leader for the section, coordinator of educational activities within the Endocrinology Section, and actively involved in a number of Nationwide Children’s Hospital committees. She is a physician co-coordinator for Medical Grand Rounds, co-director for the annual Pediatric Pearls Conference, physician co-coordinator for the weekly Lounge and Learn conference, and a member of the Resident Education Liaison Committee. She served as president of the Central Ohio Pediatric Society from 2007-2008.
