Applications are received on an ongoing basis. However, the Stecker Program selections are only approved once a year in the spring.
All scholars are expected to follow schedules as dictated by the professional mentors and the ISP. Typical work weeks are 35-40 hours. Consent for time off must be received from the profesional mentor and the ISP must be notified. The ISP will meet weekly with the scholar to track progress and updates. Scholars are encouraged to explore other clinical services at Nationwide Children's. Arrangements can be made for mini-observational experiences in other subspecialty areas with permission from the department head with the submission of goals.
Visit periods will be coordinated through the ISP Office and will be based on the availability of both scholar and professional mentor. Any scholar not beginning an educational experience within 1 year of approval must reapply.
All scholars must make a presentation about health care in their county to which the Nationwide Children's Hospital employees will be invited. All scholars will receive a DVD of the presentation, a certificate of completion, and a letter of referral at the end of the visit.
Please Note: The Stecker Scholarship deadline has been changed to
March 15th effective immediately.
The Stecker International Scholars Program was established in 1995 to improve children's access to quality health care throughout the world. The program provides physicians and nurses with postgraduate, individually tailored education at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
The Nationwide Children’s Hospital China Program officially began in 2005, although medical staff members in oncology, rheumatology, and psychology had been working in China for more than 10 years. In 2005, projects were centered in three hospitals: Cardiovascular Institute and Fuwai Hospital, Shanghai Children’s Hospital-Pudong District, and Wuhan Children’s Hospital.
To meet the growing demand for specialized training, the ISP created the Independently Funded Scholars program to include those healthcare professionals for which the Stecker Program is unable to provide scholarships.
The Rotary International Fellowship Program is the most recent addition to the International Program at NCH. This program allows visitors to participate in a 2-week educational experience in the Department of Radiology.
Scholars have come to us from many different areas of the world. We have grouped them into regions and assigned staff members to each region. View a listing of staff members
