Center for Colorectal and Pelvic Reconstruction International Trips :: Nationwide Children's Hospital

International Work

The Nationwide Children's Center for Colorectal and Pelvic Reconstruction is devoted to caring for children around the world who have complex colorectal and pelvic abnormalities who otherwise have only limited access to surgical services.

It is a fundamental principle of our work that children get the same standard of care around the world as they would if they were being cared for at Nationwide Children’s.

The CCPR will be traveling and presenting at several conferences in 2015. In addition, we will continue our work to care for children around the world through surgical training missions.

Cape Town, South Africa: September, 2014

In early September, 2014, the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Center for Colorectal and Pelvic Reconstruction (CCPR) team traveled to Cape Town, South Africa. The surgical mission was supported by Mending Kids International, a wonderful non-profit organization that helps children throughout the world. The team consisted of surgeons and nurses from Columbus, Ohio, Seattle, Washington, Israel, Italy, the United Kingdom, The Netherlands and all members of Colorectal Team overseas (CTO).

The goal of our international work is two-fold. We provide world-class care to children who may otherwise not receive treatment. However in order to further extend our reach to other children in need, the training of surgeons and nurses in those communities is an essential component to this work. not to simply treat children but also to train local providers to care for their own patients in the future.
