Administrative Fellowship Experience

Throughout the two-year, two-hospital fellowship, the Fellow develops management skills and acquires knowledge in a variety of areas through active participation in administrative meetings and completion of managerial projects throughout the organizations. Under the guidance of an executive level preceptor, the Fellow is exposed to many learning opportunities. The Fellow’s career interests are important to both organizations and he or she is encouraged to pursue experiences that will benefit his/her career.


The fellow receives: competitive fellowship salary, comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision), paid time off, support for travel to one conference, and allowance for relocation expenses.

Opportunities and Experiences of Past and Current Fellows:

  • Coordinated the implementation of a Primary Care redesign project to separate the on-site primary care center into four separate operational units to enhance patient flow, satisfaction and resident education.
  • Analyzed the racial distribution of Children's Hospital employees by department which elevated the priority of diversity in the workplace. Participated in the budget development for a diversity initiative.
  • Assisted hospital managers to identify cost savings and revenue enhancements for financial improvement to form a strategic plan for financial turnaround.
  • Led the planning, coordination and management of the transition of a high volume Nationwide Children's Hospital Primary Care Center to a new location.
  • Coordinated the set-up of a 16-bed general medical and surgical unit.
  • Coordinated the set-up of a reference laboratory station.
  • Conducted physician profiling research, analysis and business justification.
  • Developed a room service program to increase patient satisfaction and support family-centered care.
  • Coordinated the development of a physician hospital organization to promote physician/hospital alignment.
  • Evaluated an emergency department tracking system.

  • Reorganized dash board to align with 5-year strategic plan.
  • Performed market assessments and volume projections to determine the next two Urgent Care site locations for NCH.

  • Managed the budgeting and tracking of $30 million in capital spending.
  • Co-facilitated the creation of a corporate services structure and cost allocation methodology for four hospitals and a physician practice network.
  • Led the planning and start-up of a mobile health unit community program.
  • Participated in the planning of a new operating room and perioperative services facility.
  • Project manager for design of NCH’s first Suburban Surgery Center, responsible for user satisfaction, budget, timeline and operations plans.
  • Coordinated development of a Mobile Care Unit with Ronald McDonald House.
  • Mapped process for outsourcing transplant lab work to another facility and determined opportunity to increase gross patient revenue by $750,000.
  • Served as Interim Operations Coordinator for Nationwide Children's Mobile Care Center
  • Operationalized hospital support services at eight school-based primary care clinics
