| Meet Joshua, Emergency Surgery |
|
Today, Joshua has no fear. Which is remarkable considering what a frightening beginning he had to his life. The broken leg he suffered during childbirth was the least of his problems. Only 36 hours after his C-section delivery, Joshua’s parents were awakened at 3:30 a.m. with the news that their baby needed emergency surgery. He was rushed to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where a team of surgeons led by Dr. Caniano performed the first of three surgeries to correct the incomplete development of his intestinal tract. Now, what was a life threatening condition is quickly fading into the past. Joshua, however, is going strong.

| Meet Ny'Aziah, Primary Care |
|
For some, Nationwide Children’s Hospital is a place of great hope and promise, where scientific discovery and innovation provide critical answers. But for Ny’Aziah, it is a place where her needs for basic pediatric care are met. Each day, the physicians and nurses at nine Primary Care Centers throughout Columbus provide everything from routine checkups to immunizations. These centers are where thousands of families turn when fevers spike and ear infections surface. This care is not only vital to Ny’Aziah and her two younger siblings, but also to the health of our entire community.

Just ask her who her favorite princess is and she’ll quickly name them all before running off to play. And her favorite color? It’s a toss up between pink and purple.

| Meet Joey |
|
Balancing school, baseball, basketball and piano lessons, Joey is a typical eight-year old boy who is anything but typical. Born with no right ventricle in his heart, Joey had three open-heart surgeries in the first two years of his life. Then, 18 months ago, a CT scan indicated a narrowing of the pulmonary artery that was hindering development of the arteries in his lungs. So surgeons inserted a stainless steel alloy stent in the pulmonary artery to correct the problem. And let Joe get back to what he does best. Everything. High Bandwidth Low Bandwidth

Words simply cannot describe the pain associated with these procedures. But through it all, Kayla remained strong and courageous. Ultimately, she won the battle. Kayla has been cancer-free for three years. High Bandwidth Low Bandwidth
